Flu Vaccination
In accordance with Department of Health guidelines, we recommend a flu vaccination for patients with chronic heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes and those who are frail and elderly. Also for those on immunosuppressive treatment.
Patients over the age of 65 and most at risk of serious illness from flu are therefore offered an immunisation each year. If you have not had a routine flu immunisation previously, then please check with your Doctor whether it is recommended for you.
Routine immunisation of fit children and adults is not recommended.
For more information about Flu Vaccinations you can go to the NHS website here.
Pneumovax Vaccination
This is once only immunisation for a specific type of chest infection and it is only recommended for patients with certain on-going health problems. Please check with your Doctor whether this immunisation is recommended for you.
Tetanus Vaccination
Everyone should be protected against tetanus. New guidelines recommend that unless you have had 3 primary injections and at least 2 boosters, more protection against tetanus is needed. Please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse if you require this immunisation.
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common cause of coughs and colds. It usually gets better by itself, but it can be serious for some babies and older adults.
A vaccine to help protect against RSV will be available on the NHS from 1 September 2024.
You'll be able to get the vaccine if:
- you're aged 75 to 79
- you're 28 weeks pregnant or more – this will help protect your baby for the first few months after they're born
If you're aged 75 to 79, your GP surgery will contact you about getting vaccinated. Please wait to be contacted.
From September, you can speak to your maternity service or GP surgery about getting your RSV vaccination if you're 28 weeks pregnant or more.
Shingles Vaccination
Shingles is a painful disease that can have serious and long lasting complications.
You are eligible for the shingles vaccine under the shingles national immunisation programme if you are:
- An adult who is severely immuncompromised aged 50 or over.
- An adult who is aged between 65 to 79 years.
If you are eligible, please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse if you require this immunisation.
Travel Immunisation
If you require travel immunisations please call into the surgery and collect a travel form for completion. It is important that you provide details of all the countries to be visited including stopovers. You can also complete the form here.
After receiving your travel form, our Practice Nurse will contact you to advise on immunisations required and timing. Please allow at least 8 weeks before you travel.
